White Christmas in Kuala Lumpur

Christmas decorations that are eye catching and beautiful are plentiful but Christmas decorations that are eye catching and beautiful yet made out of recyclable materials.... now that is insightful, creative and certainly very GREEN!

This is the time of the year, when all the shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur will spend all their year-end budget to spruce up their premises with the MOST innovative, the MOST extravagant and the MOST creative Christmas decoration one has ever seen. This is also the time when superlatives are barely enough to describe the tallest, the biggest and the baddest in Shopping Mall’s decorations. It’s good that the malls are fighting for the attention and eye balls of the consumers – we the consumers are spoil for choices and we can take our money to where we can enjoy the biggest bang. Indirectly the malls are spending and putting money back into the economy and we the consumers are also enticed to spend, hopefully in aid of the stalling world economy. Below are a few photos to showcase how Malaysians celebrate their “White Christmas” at the malls.

In keeping with it's White Lyrical Christmas theme, 1 Utama Shopping Center is lining up a string of musicians and carolers for the daily entertainment of its valued shoppers.

It's truly a white lyrical Christmas at 1 Utama Shopping Center.

Suria KLCC has one of the most colorful presentation this year with its Sweetest Christmas theme. Children and adults alike lined up to have their photos taken with the loads of candies and ginger bread house. This has to be the mother of all Candy Wonderland in Kuala Lumpur.

The hanging and sometimes twirling candies and gingerbread man are a major attraction for the kids and sometimes the kids at heart.

Suria KLCC is a major tourist attraction in Malaysia and its seasonal decoration changes according to the major festivities of the main ethnic groups in Malaysia. Chinese New Year (Spring Festival), Hari Raya (Muslim festival of Eid ul-Fitr), Deepavali (Diwali) and Christmas are celebrated by Malaysians, therefore the 4 major festivals are celebrated as if there are 4 climatic seasons in Malaysia.

Angels and fairies are in abundance this festive season at The Curve. Be prepared to be enchanted by them!

The Curve Bedazzled Christmas festival was launched with much fanfare and celebration by angels, fairies, celebrities and the management of the shopping complex.

Although the Fantasy theme Christmas decoration at the Mid Valley Megamall is a bit dull and muted this year, they more than made up the short comings with a few merry magical appearance of some fairytale characters like Golden Dragon, Snow Queen, etc... There's even a few festive fashion shows to showcase new clothing lines from a few established apparel retailers.

Pavilion was one of the first shopping mall in the city that launched the elaborate Christmas decorations "wars" with an elegantly conceived theme of: A Royale Christmas. The pioneer and the brave usually live to reap the benefit of their labors.

There's an endless stream of shoppers coming to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur just to soak up the ambiance of the Christmas decorations and to share the joy of the Christmas celebration.

The Santa sleigh and the team of flying reindeer in front of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur must surely top the list of the most photographed decorative Christmas lights in Malaysia!

Celebrate Magnifique Christmas at Sunway Pyramid with French inspired theme! The Moulin Rogue styled decorations and the Santa Clause photo stop are a big hit with the shoppers.

The Sunway Pyramid's skating rink is also decorated with a snowman and a 'snowbaby'.

Sungei Wang decoration is a little amateurish this year... perhaps the economic slowdown has taken a toll on their budget. But the carolers and musicians certainly bring life and entertainment to the shopping mall.

  1. Woww… Wonderful White X’mas in KL.. 🙂

  2. Lovely pictures and write up. Thanks for sharing 🙂

I have re-posted this to my facebook page with credit to you 🙂 Just hoping more of my overseas friends will have a better feel of how we decorate the malls here. I was told Bangsar shopping centre has good ambiance too.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas to you 🙂

    • Michelle,
Although Bangsar Shopping Centre is not a very large shopping mall, its ‘giant’ theme Christmas deco and the new Gourmet corner at the old wing made the mall very cozy and oozing with Christmas mood. If one would like to experience the warm Christmas ambiance, BSC is the mall to go to.

Thanks for dropping by & Merry Christmas to you too.

  3. Hello,
This pictures are amazing. Do you know which company made the decorations?
