X Top Model OPEN CASTING: Day Two

Wow.... is that X enough for you? The contestants for the X Top model search are really a confident and talented lot. I am sure the 10 shortlisted contestants will produce more jaw dropping moments like this.

Sunday June 12, 2011.

The X Top Model search has gone into its second day. Yesterday close to 15 hopeful applicants turned up for the first open casting session. After the first day mistakes made by some of the young and inexperience contestants, today we saw a more compose and brave contestants taking the runway by storm.

Most of the young girls are probably fresh from high school and quite inexperience in the art of taming the runway. Some made some really glaring mistakes but a few of them are really quite good, considering most of them are really new at this.

Following are more photos of the happenings on the first session of the second day. I will try to attempt to point out a few glaring mistakes made by some of the contestants, from the point of view of a photographer. I am not a trained runway expert (and I will never be), so please excuse my lack of intimate authority on this subject.

Some of the examples and critiques I shared on my blogs are for learning purposes and are not meant to demean any contestants. We learn by sharing and if you feel slighted by my comments, do send me an email and I will delete your photos at once. Similarly if I am wrong in my assessment, do email me and I am happy to learn from anyone.

A few aspiring models at the registration counter on the second day......

Just to be sure.....you have to be at least 170 cm (67") to qualify..... if you are shorter, you could drop by and try your luck too.... lack of height does not make you less of a model...... Just ask Victoria, she doesn't qualify but she is the organizer of the X Top Model Search! πŸ™‚

X34.... yes, you qualified.....

X35.... you are barely there....but since you are here, why not give it a try...... πŸ™‚

X36.... you are too tall.... oops.... just kidding.... πŸ™‚

Getting a quick makeover and looking good......

We have a rocker in the house..... rock the runway, girl....

How would you like for me to transform you? In real life, when you are working as a model, your makeup and hair concept would have been predetermined by the designer and make-up artist in an elaborate diagram and color chart. You don't even get to choose what to put on your face. πŸ™‚

Some designers love to have a plain looking model.... so they can work their magic and transform you easily with make-up and their clothing line.

MUA or Make-up artist can transform your look in seconds... so you better respect and work closely with them.....

Beautiful smile..... πŸ™‚

The judges getting ready for the event. From left: Shaun Salim, Hazel Loke and Jim Liaw.

Shaun, the catwalk guru sharing some of his wisdom on what makes a successful model.

Hazel from Models.com sharing a few pointers with the girls.....

Cheryl, the Master of Ceremony, interviewing the judges....

The first contestant of the day.....

X28.... one of the more polished walker of the day.....she's good.

An excellent pose. This is what you expect from a runway model.

Our rocker is quite good too....

Need to work on the pose a little bit.....

Judging from her catwalk, she has some prior training.....

Please don't look so gloomy.... Cheer up....

A very cheerful candidate..... πŸ˜€

Nice strut.... and nice pair of shoes too.....

This is an example of how you shouldn't walk on the runway..... You have to remember, a model is suppose to showcase a bikini, wedding gown or an entire clothing line. No designers in their right mind would hire a model who cannot add value to their clothes. So the next time you take to the runway, try to empathize with the designers and imagine how you would add value to whatever you are wearing.

Do not laugh! You gave an impression that you are not serious and lack of respect to your fellow contestants.

She is very inexperience, judging from her pose. Don't worry, learn from your mistakes and be a better contestant next time.

Good pose....

An example of what you shouldn't do on the runway. Bring a pair of shoes that you are comfortable with, not borrow from your mom. You should test them out first and not get all tangled up on the runway.

A very confident pose..... excellent.

Cool pose.... Be yourself and be normal..... You don't have to smile or laugh on the runway..... just be yourself.

For audition, please bring shorts or clothes that can accentuate your features.... Do not wear something that can emphasize your flabby thigh or tummy....

When giving eye contacts to the judges or photographers, do turn your face and look at them.... don't look at them through the corner of your eyes.... it's just so weird in my opinion.....

Victoria, mentoring the contestants..... you could learn a lot from her...

Victoria tossing a token to the participants...

Don't play play ah! An "unker" showing off his skill on the runway..... Not bad..... 'ada gaya'.... πŸ™‚

Not to be outshone, an "auntee" also showed off her skill too..... In her hay days, she may have strutted on the runways of London, Milan, Paris and New York.

A late comer..... getting ready to be measured..... she is tall...

A quick makeover and off she goes..... to the runway....

In the meantime, a Red FM DJ trying his hand a strutting down the runway..... not bad.... at least there's a use for his mouth...... πŸ™‚

Wow..... a very confident walk from the late comer...... fantastic...

That's how you wowed the judges.....

Striding the runway.....

The judges, hard at work.....

Somewhere in another corner of the venue, the contestants are having a ball.....

Oh my................ I am speechless................ bravo X31............... I am your fan................ πŸ™‚

There's an X everywhere...... you just need to know where to look for it!

A model's job is diverse, you can be a runway model today and a race queen tomorrow. So be flexible and learn from your mistakes. Soon, one of you will be Malaysia's next top model!

A model's life is fast-paced.... so be prepared and when the opportunity comes, pounce on it and you will never look back.....

Good luck girls..... For the final 10 of you who are selected, congratulations! For those who are not, my sympathy.... but do work harder and try again next year. If you want it hard enough, you will get it.

The search for the X factor continues........
