MIFA Gala @ Malaysia-International Fashion Week 2011

Dato' Tom Abang Saufi's beautiful and colorful collection.

After 6 days of intense fashion showcase – some of us really eat fashion, drink fashion and sleep fashion – we finally came to the finale of these intense fashion dreams. On the last gala of the week we were treated to the crème de la crème of the fashion designers in Malaysia. In the house, we have Dato’ Tom Abang Saufi, PU3, Amir Luqman and Jovian Mandagie. As usual Tom Abang Saufi treated the guests to a magical world of colorful and smooth flowing dresses. You can’t help but to imagine that the models might fly off the runway with her “flight inspired” clothing line. Amir Luqman once again showed us why he is one of Malaysia’s most creative talent when it comes to designing masterpieces for the rich and famous.

The MIFA gala finally ended with a few awards presentation. And the winners were:

  1. Emerging Talent Award: Jonathan Liang (Paris-based designer)
  2. Logwin Industrial Excellence Award: Khoon Hooi
  3. Special Achievement Award: Datuk Raja Rezza Shah
  4. The Star Couturier Award: Jovian Mandagie (Indonesian Malaysia-based designer)

With the last award presented, the ninth installment of the Malaysian-International Fashion Week 2011 came to a successful closure yet again. As for me, I hope the ten installment of the Malaysia-International Fashion Week 2012 will offer a bigger cash reward to the winner, not just to inspire new entrants but also to elevate the image of the event to a higher plane. But then again, it’s not my money to give but really, RM3,000 couldn’t even buy you a well made couture’s dress these days!

The beautiful and witty master of ceremony - Andrea Fonseka. She did a great job, especially when addressing the handful of disrespectful guests who left half-way into the fashion show and disrupted the rest of the guests. Well done, Andrea! Next time bring a stick and whack them.

Bringing new meaning to a very energetic singing and dance performance - Can't recall her name.
