Minister of Tourism and Culture Launches Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready To Wear 2014

Kuala Lumpur, 16th June – Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Abdul Aziz today officially launched Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready To Wear 2014 (KLFW) at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

 

The event, which took place at the shopping mall’s iconic fountain, featured a VIP drop-off in an impressive car convoy by KLFW’s official car sponsor Maserati. Also in attendance were Ybhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen, Chairman of Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board; Y.Brs. Mr Rashidi bin Hasbullah, Deputy Secretary General Tourism Industry; Madam Chong Yoke Har, Deputy Director Tourism Malaysia; Tuan Haji Ramzi Abu Yazid, Head Shopping Secretariat; Ybhg. Datin Wira Emilia Hanafi on behalf of Ybhg. Datuk Wira SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin, Joint Executive Chairman Naza Italia Sdn Bhd; Mr Wan Ahmad Wan Abas, General Manager Naza Italia Sdn Bhd; Mr Gaetano G. Marino, Regional Director South East Asia & Pacific Maserati Asia Pacific; Ms Joyce Yap, CEO of Pavilion; Ms Kung Suan Ai, Director of Marketing Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and Mr Lovell Ho, Director of Leasing Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

Speeches were given by Mr Andrew Tan, Founder of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready To Wear; Ms Joyce Yap and YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri about the 5-day fashion event which takes place at Pavilion from 18th to 22nd June 2014. After YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri initiated the officiating beats of a drum, live percussionists continued to perform accompanied by an exciting parade of 100 models that drew the attention of shoppers and passers-by. The audience were surprised when Malaysian hip-hop artists Joe Flizzow, Altimet and SonaOne emerged from a Maserati to perform the hit ‘HAVOC’. The event concluded with a grand finale photo of all the performers, models, sponsors, partners and VIPs.

It is the second year Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready To Wear takes place, featuring an impressive line up of over 80 Malaysian designers. The event is set to showcase collections that are available off the rack in an effort to promote the local fashion and retail industry. The introduction of 4 regional guest designers from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines marks the beginning of the organization’s effort to introduce Malaysian Ready To Wear brands regionally by tying up with other fashion weeks and cross promoting with Tourism Malaysia.

 

The main focus this year is ‘THE RUNWAY COLLECTION’, a selection of runway-worthy distinctive new lines and structures that have yet made it to the mass market. KLFW is challenging Malaysia’s fashion designers to command presence, not just on the stage but also in the local and international markets. The event is recognized as a B2C (Business To Consumer) platform allowing designers to connect with customers and with the support of Tourism Malaysia, KLFW hopes to garner more international appeal to attract revenue for the industry.

 

Adding to the roster of established and emerging designers are 2 new shows titled UITM8 and SHOW3; the former highlighting 8 top fashion design students of MARA University of Technology and the latter featuring names who will be making their first appearances as new Malaysian fashion labels! These are the ones to watch as KLFW introduces and increases awareness of our homegrown young talent on the fashion front.

 

In its second year, KLFWwill be featuring designers such as Farah Khan, Khoon Hooi, Tom Abang Saufi by Iman, Carven Ong, Syaiful Baharim, Sazzy Falak, Jonathan Liang, Silas Liew, Jovian Mandagie, Alia Bastamam, PU3, Zakwan Anuar, Kavita Kaur, Syomir Izwa, Innai Red, Joe Chia, Mizz Nina and more for a presentation that will bring fashion enthusiasts together over 5 thrilling days.
