KLFW RTW 2014 Featuring Farah Khan

Farah-Khan-20

KLFW RTW 2014 featuring the latest collection from Farah Khan

21st June 2014

Farah Khan Fashion Show is always attended by the well-heeled and well-dressed crowds, anywhere around the world. So it is only natural to see the who’s who on the list of their invited guests last night. Unfortunately she couldn’t make it to her own fashion show last night. However she never disappoints with her latest collection. I always like how she starts off her show with environmental or personal messages on the tees of her models. Then the show starts proper…… and the crowds were blown away by her super fast-paced fashion catwalks that are not only beautiful but are distinctively Farah Khan! Kudos to another job well done.

MAXXIN-03

This has got to be the weirdest dark series fashion show at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Show RTW 2014. Not only does the label feature hooded masked men, they are also the one and only brand that equipped their models with spiked ninja styled rubber boots coupled with the black lacy gloves. Cool, really cool!

I do not have much information regarding this brand but suffice to say, if you are a fan of this genre of fashion, you would have known that their shop is located at Sungei Wang Plaza. You could find more information about them at http://www.facebook.com/InFLUENCEMY

In 2010 Joe Chia graduated from Raffles Design Institute, and with the vision of seeing his designs being worn by people on the streets, his eponymous label – JOE CHIA RTW was launched in 2012. JOE CHIA embodies classic, timeless and experimental pieces to be worn for years. Therefore, instead of following trends and the seasons, collections are launched in a sequence of chapters whereby each piece in every chapter narrates its individual story.

The label’s clothing language is the celebration of the designer’s innate Malaysian heritage. The label has increased a distinctive attention for details and functional qualities, whilst maintaining a strong connection to urban roots. “The Silent Drama,” described Joe.

More Showroom Babes @ KLIMS 2013

KLIMS-Babes-F09

Ford’s Showroom Babe, Nui Nuy on duty at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2013

The Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show is coming to an end soon. The constant stream of visitors to the show just proof that no matter what’s the condition of the economy, cars are still man’s object of desire. Some buy cars for fun, some for showing off but some out of sheer necessities for their daily commute. Due to the high import duties for cars in Malaysia, many Malaysian in their lifetime will not have the opportunity to own one of those fancy dream cars. They could only come to this type of motor show to view and ogle their dream rides. Since most of those million dollars cars like Ferrari, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Roll Royce, etc were not on display, they could do the next best thing…. ogle at the beautiful showroom babes on duty at the show. I would have to say, most of these beauties are world class by any standard! If you do not have the opportunity to visit the show for whatever reason, feel free to get to know these ‘pretties’ here. There’s no entrance fee. 🙂

Auto Show Models @ Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2013

KLIMS-2013-models-A13

Professional Auto Show Model has come a long way in ensuring a successful motor show. They are first and foremost very attractive, friendly, model trained and well verse in the specification of the vehicles they are attending to. They used to be just eye candies in any auto show but their professionalism has seen much improvement over the years.

Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2013 is back again this year after a ‘no show’ last year. Unfortunately this year, the auto show has somewhat shrunk in term of the number of car manufacturers and companies taking part. Off hand, I could see the absence of Proton, Malaysia’s own auto maker and Naza, one of the biggest auto importer in Malaysia. I don’t particular give a hoot about Proton since Proton cars are all over the streets and dump sites. If anyone wanted to have any inkling of what’s coming out from the Proton stable’s they just have to visit Mitsubishi and Honda booths and they could feast their eyes on what’s coming out from Proton in the next 30 years. What I miss was Naza’s stables of Imports like Maserati, Ferrari and other exotic parallel imported models.

The major European marques like Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari, Land Rover, Jaguar, etc have been avoiding the Malaysian Auto Show like it’s some kind of bubonic plague. I don’t blame them as Malaysian Auto Industries are so protected and inward looking, they would rather spend their money in Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines. Malaysia is just too small a country to have it’s own auto brand, coupled with uncompetitive local market, lack of brains behind the brand and the zero level of automotive technologies. They should just close down already. Period.

Astro 國際華裔小姐競選 Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2013 Winner: Ms. Zhiny Ooi, 24; First Runner-up: Ms. Fancy Goh, 24; Second Runner-up: Ms. Erica Tan, 22.

Kuala Lumpur, 2nd November 2013

I have been shooting many fashion shows, modelling contest and pageantry events in the last few years but I haven’t had the chance to shoot the Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant Grand Final until this year. Beside the traditional swimsuits modelling, catwalks in elegant dresses and group dancing & singing, I seldom see individual talent showcase in most of these pageantry and modeling contests.

This however, changed with this year Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant Grand Final 2013, as far as I am concerned. I was really impressed with their talent show and how the contestants tried their best to outdo each other in a duel to the end. Although talent show alone might not contribute to their winning, it was a good start to judge whether a contestant is worthy of the crown she is going to win. And I must say this year winner, Miss Zhiny Ooi is a worthy winner in every aspect of the title. Beside winning the overall title of Miss Astro, she was also the winner of Miss Talent and Body Beautiful. In this regard, I congratulates her and wish her all the best in her future endeavor.

In recognition of their talents, I am posting their talent show in my accompanying photographs below. As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words.

Two Malaysian Fashion Icons posing for yours truly during the launching of Amber Chia’s Guide to a Successful Modelling Career.

Amber Chia’s guide to a Successful Modelling Career is the first of many to come in the Masterclass Series by MPH, a new line of books by local experts sharing their knowledge and experience in their areas of specialty. The book is not meant to be a technical know how of posing or catwalk but instead an off the cuff sort of guide book for a successful modelling career based on practical experience and personal journeys.

“I did not know a thing about modelling when I started out as a teenager. I wish there was a school or a guidebook that I could have referred to back then.” says Amber. “I managed to set up a modelling academy a few years back and now, I’m so happy that I can also produce a guidebook to help aspiring models.”

Amber Chia’s Guide consists of 11 chapters, each full of advice for young women keen on pursuing a modelling career in Malaysia and beyond. Topics covered include how to assess oneself, modelling platforms, professional attitude, personal branding, avoiding scams, other employment opportunities and much more.

Amber also shares her journey, from her childhood days in Tawau daydreaming about modelling, to winning the GUESS international ambassadorship and where she is today.

With no mentor and no connections in the industry, she could have easily stumbled and made the kind of mistakes many aspiring models make on their quest for success. But her steely determination to make it big on her terms guided Amber through the difficult years.

Now, in a single book, she shares all the best practices for succeeding in the field that she has so thoroughly dominated.

“Being a professional model is hard work, but at the end of the day, if it is something you enjoy and have passion for, modelling can be a very rewarding career choice. I made that choice a long time ago and despite the ups and downs, I’m glad I did.”

Amber Chia’s Guide to a Successful Modelling Career is published by MPH Group Publishing and will be available in all major bookstores at RM35.90 a copy. It will also be available as an e-Book via MPH Digital.

Mercedes-Benz STYLO FGP 2013 Emerging Designer Finals

One of my favorites to win the Emerging Designer finals. The design was thoughtful, meticulous, intricate and the choice of recyclable materials and color was excellent.

One of my favorites to win the Emerging Designer finals. The design was thoughtful, meticulous, intricate and the choice of recyclable materials and color was excellent. However that’s from a person never trained in fashion designs. The professional assessment might be totally different. So good luck to all hopeful participants.

Construction & Infrastructure Equipment Exhibition (CIEX) 2012

Tractors-02

I just couldn’t give up the opportunity to view up close and personal all the Caterpillar “TOYS” that were on display at the Preview of Construction & Infrastructure Exhibition (CIEX) 2012. These are big toys for BIG boys. Drop by and take a look now. You won’t have many opportunity to do this in Malaysia.

Selangor, 1 Dec 2012

For some people, the fascination with heavy-duty mammoths started from a young age, while others appreciate their role in the development of towns and cities, and some drive them for a living. Most people however rarely get a chance to get up close to such enormous equipment; some of these trucks loaders and excavators are the size of a bungalow and up to 7 meters in height.

When I was invited to attend this exhibition preview event, I was initially surprised that the public will be allowed to view and even play with such huge equipments that for most of us (boys and some girls) remain as memories of our childhood toys. It really was a great opportunity for me to view first hand on the latest and greatest what Tractors Malaysia has to offer and also to share with you guys on these giant equipments.

L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2012 Grand Finale – Part 2

“The Parisan House of Hairdressing” theme was a story that transmit the idea that hair as a piece of garment that can both embody and transcend fashion, therefore inspiring the hairdressers to see their craft as bespoke couture.

Prior to the winner’s announcement, guests were treated to a spectacular hair show featuring five established L’Oréal Artistic Ambassadors who lend their expertise in creating looks inspired by L’Oréal Professionnel Spring/Summer 2012 Colour Collection. Entitled ‘Artisanal Expressions’, Albert Nico, founder of Albert Nico Boutique Salon; Andy Chan, founder of AndyChan Hair Studio; Kevin Woo, founder of Centro Hair Salon; Miko Au, founder of Miko Galere and Simon Koh, founder of ELLE Hair Studio paid homage to “The Parisian House of Hairdressing”, celebrating the tradition of Parisan haute couture where the art of hairdressing is revered, practiced and perfected. The showcase transmitted the idea that hair as a piece of garment can both embody and transcend fashion, therefore inspiring the hairdressers to see their craft as bespoke couture.

The concept of ‘Artisanal Expressions’ looked into the artisanal work of craftsmanship, creating desire amongst other hairdressers. It is a continuing story of ‘La Couture’ and ‘Retro Nouveau’ with a modern twist with timeless vision of beauty. The story was unveiled in 3 chapters.

Photos of Chapters 1 and 2 were presented in Part 1.

Chapter 3 which is the ‘The Parisian House of Hairdressing’ will be showcased in Part 2 of this blog. Chapter 3 proved yet again why the 5 famed hairdressers were chosen as the L’Oréal Artistic Ambassadors. They were truly creative geniuses in the ‘hairy’ sense and I was really impressed with the combination of the hair pieces, makeup and garments which totally transformed the models into women of our wildest fantasies. A job well done guys!

L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2012 Grand Finale – Part 1

Hairdressing’s most prestigious Award brought together excellence and innovations from young, creative, and talented Malaysians.

Kuala Lumpur, 20 September 2012.

L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2012 Grand Finale unleashed creativity beyond imagination with beauty in French Perfection!

L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2012, the Oscars of the hairdressing industry, culminated with an inspiring Grand Finale as 14 top finalists brought the competition to another level with extraordinary hair creations! The event also saw L’Oréal Professionnel’s 5 Artistic Ambassadors & International GUest Artiste whipped out an impressive showcase entitled Artisanal Excellence and Tribute to Beauty respectively. The shows concept reinforced the brand’s link to fashion and most importantly, reinventing the profession.

A Tribute to Beauty was aptly chosen as the theme for this year’s competition as it paid homage to the success and tribulations of famous hairdressers with styles that are distinctively French. HengThang Yih, GM of Professional Products Division, L’Oréal Malaysia commented, “This year, we celebrate a French story, a prevailing style, a higher sense of fashion and beauty in four aspects that reflect the French sense of beauty of L’Oréal Professionnel – Beauty in Hairdressing, Beauty in Women, Beauty in Life and Beauty in Arts.”

The Grand Finale was an extraordinary showdown where the 14 finalists showed what they were made of by presenting judges with amazing hair creations that were cutting edge, forward and evoked a sense of modernity. X Top Model Search 2012 – Malaysia Grand Final.

Tuti, showcasing her swimwear during the X Top Swimwear Show, styled by Jimmy Wong, Keith Chee and The Idan.

Sim Hui, Winner of X Top Model Search 2011, making a special guest appearance during the Grand Final of the 2012 edition.

Kuala Lumpur, September 15 2012.

The success of the X Top Model Search 2011 has once again paved the way for the extraordinary conclusion of the 2012 edition at a building aptly named The Icon! The success of X Top Model Search in Malaysia has proven to be a breeding ground for newly minted models in the Malaysia fashion and modelling scene. The inaugural edition last year has produced a few successful models that are now gracing the local magazines and fashion shows regularly. The method deployed by X Top Model Search organisation such as their intensive training program, special shopping malls appearances, brand’s thematic photography shoots, fashion modelling, fashion photography exposure and overseas exposure has proven to produce confident and well trained models ready for the local market.

Most of those that came for this year audition, brought nothing more than their hopes to enter the final selection. Most if not all has no background in modelling, and has never ever step on a runway before. And most  of them do not even know how to execute a decent cat walk let alone posing in front of the judges. But their transformation from a duckling to a graceful swan, within such a short period of time had not only stunned many sceptics but the contestants themselves. In this regards, I really have to credit the founder, Victoria Vikki and Event Director Kenji Chan for their undying commitment and positive attitude to develop the Model Search Industry in Malaysia and also their passion to see through the success of the models personally. Bravo for a job well done. I for one have been following their Organisation since their inception last year and I have to say I am truly impressed with what they have achieved thus far.

For 2012, the X Top Model Search edition has once again produced a stunning array of potential successful models judging by the quality of their cat walk and modelling personality. I wish them all the best in their future modelling endeavour. Good Luck girls! The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Show in Malaysia

The legacy of Princess Diana lives on! Prince William is not only popular in Britain, he’s now a household name in Malaysia too. His visit to Kuala Lumpur this past 2 days has reaffirmed his popularity and his larger than life image as the handsome and dashing British prince.

September 14, 2012

When it comes to everything British, Malaysian certainly has some crazy obsession with 2 products from this country. One is the ever popular English Premier League (EPL) where Malaysians are more passionate about their EPL’s teams than their national’s football team. The country’s neighbourhood “Mamak” food stalls will probable go bust if EPL is banned in this country!

The second obsession is with the British royalty, especially during Princess Diana time. That’s why Malaysians from all walks of life come out in force to show their support and respect for the visiting future King. I guess this has also to do with the fact that Malaysia, like Britain is a country that still practise constitutional monarchy system.

Today we saw a huge turnout from tourists, well-wishers and Malaysians alike who are fans of Prince William and the ever beautiful Catherine Middleton. They were feted to an array of cultural performance from the diverse ethnic groups from the country. Nothing beats the experience more than some picture from some travel books. I truly hope the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge do enjoy their short stay in Malaysia. The turnout itself says a lot about their popularity here and I do hope they will come back again for a longer stay sometime in the near future.

Welcome to Malaysia!

X Top Model Search 2012 returns with a bang!

X Top Model Search 2011 Winner: Aw Sim Hui

X Top Model Search Malaysia 2012 is back again this year, bigger, wiser and more relevant in the cut throat business of uncovering that special “X Factor” quality in that one special person to represent Malaysia in the international arena of super modelling. The quality they are looking for transcend just beauty and height but encompassing other immeasurable quality such as intelligence, inner beauty, attitude and some kind of X factors that make certain people great and popular among the general populace.

I have been following the X Top Model Search since its inception in 2011 and I could vouch that the winner Aw Sim Hui, does indeed met my expectation for a great personality and a potential for super model candidate. I wish her all the best for her future undertaking and I am sure she would make Malaysia proud of her soon.

Therefore I strongly believe if any of you girls out there harbor any hope of being a model and wanted to be successful in your chosen path, this is a good platform for you to start. Short of taking part in Miss World or Miss Universe, this is actually more relevant if your objective is to be a fashion model. And this sure beat the rest of the model search competition out there which usually has their main objective set to promote their particular brand only and not a single clue as to building the career of a model. So if you want to be a model, this is it! Search no further.
